Main Considerations for Compliance and Voluntary Carbon Markets
Discover our latest report on carbonation, “Carbon accounting of recarbonation in lime products, key considerations for compliance and voluntary carbon markets”. We commissioned South Pole, experts in carbon markets, to conduct a comprehensive study on recarbonation in lime products and its role in mitigating climate change.
Lime reabsorbs CO₂, a process known as recarbonation. In 14 major lime applications, ~33% of the process emissions emitted during lime production are reabsorbed from the atmosphere in the first year.
The study provides recommendations for improving carbon accounting frameworks that reflect the full lifecycle of lime products.
The ultimate goal is to recognize the potential of recarbonation and enhanced recarbonation efforts to further reduce emissions and to pave the way for a carbon negative lime industry by 2050.
