The European Lime Association (EuLA) supports the European Commission’s Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) as a vital part of the Green Deal Industrial Plan. The NZIA acknowledges the importance of technologies like carbon capture and storage (CCS) for energy-intensive industries, such as lime, to remain competitive and achieve decarbonization goals. EuLA welcomes the recognition of CO2 infrastructure as a key bottleneck for CCS investment and the proposal’s goal of an annual injection capacity of at least 50 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030.
EuLA emphasizes the NZIA’s potential to enhance European industry competitiveness and calls for specific measures, such as expanding the list of strategic technologies to include carbon capture and utilization (CCU) and streamlining permitting processes across value chains. The association urges EU regulators to adopt a strategic, cross-policy approach to support industrial resilience and advance the energy transition.
