Brussels, 01/08/2023 The European Lime Association (EuLA) welcomes the European Commission’s public consultation on industrial carbon management. Highlighting the International Energy Agency’s call for scaling up carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) to drive technological progress and cost reduction, EuLA supports the Commission’s efforts to establish an EU strategy for CCUS and industrial carbon removals, critical for achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
As a hard-to-abate sector, where 70% of CO2 emissions are unavoidable process emissions, the lime industry relies on CCUS and carbon removal technologies for decarbonization. EuLA urges the Commission to adopt a comprehensive action plan with measurable milestones, emphasizing integrated EU-level planning for CO2 infrastructure, transport, and storage, alongside streamlined permitting and infrastructure guidelines.
