The European Lime Association (EuLA) highlights lime’s critical role in modern industry and welcomes the European Commission’s Green Deal Industrial Plan (GDIP) as a robust response to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Lime is essential for processes such as construction, steel production, water purification, and emissions reduction, making the sector vital for a sustainable, net-zero future.
EuLA supports the GDIP’s focus on advancing green technologies through its four pillars but emphasizes the need for explicit attention to energy-intensive industries. To decarbonize effectively, the GDIP must prioritize infrastructure for CO2 transport and storage, ensuring fair and open access to support the deployment of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies.
Additionally, EuLA calls for a strong financing plan for clean technology with clear climate benefit criteria. Successfully implementing the GDIP can secure green technology investments and bolster EU competitiveness, but carbon capture must remain central to achieving climate neutrality goals.
